Taken from The Evening Gazette and The Citizen, 04.11.93.
The famous impressionist, described as the man of a hundred voices, has entertained audiences at The Winter Gardens for the past 18 weeks with a record breaking show.
And he has made sure everyone will remember his stint in the resort by adding his name to the Winter Gardens roll of honour of headline acts. He unveiled the inscription at a spectacular ceremony before saying goodbye to the bright lights of Blackpool.
His show has smashed all records for the theatre, taking more than £1.6 million and Joe pledged to be back in Blackpool sometime in the future.
But the entertainer did not take all the limelight for himself - he told the crowds he was unveiling the plaque in honour of the memory of a good friend to myself and to Blackpool - businessman Jimmy Porter, who died this week. |
